Said to occupy the building that formerly housed Vie's Chicken and Steak House – the 1960s restaurant where Hendrix's grandmother cooked and the young guitarist frequently strummed – this spot is worth a quick look. A quirky, homemade attraction, the red-painted shack is lined with old photos and album covers and is staffed by a chatty volunteer or two.
Whether or not this is the real Vie's Chicken building has been hotly contested, but it was certainly around this area. And it's one of the last reminders of a neighborhood called Hogan's Alley that was Vancouver's black district for many years. You're not expected to pray at the shrine, but this is a good spot to indulge in some surreptitious air-guitar.
