An interesting mix of interpretive walk, heritage trail and outdoor museum, the Jasper Discovery Trail completely circumnavigates the town via an 8km (5-mile) part-paved, part-unpaved pathway. Split into three sections highlighting the town’s natural, historical and railroad legacies, the trail makes a worthwhile evening stroll or bracing early morning jog.
Interpretive boards en route provide an educational introduction to both town and park and, on the northwestern side, the trail dips in and out of montane forest, offering excellent views over the surrounding mountains. The train station is a good place to start.
