Green Lake
As its name suggests, Green Lake possesses that stunning emerald color characteristic of pristine glacier-fed lakes in Western Canada. It just so happens that this beautiful lake is just a few minutes drive from Whistler Village, and it’s something of a basecamp for summer fun.
As the largest lake in the Whistler Valley, this is a popular spot for watersports such as wakeboarding and waterskiing. From the public docks, it’s possible to rent watercraft, canoes, kayaks and paddleboards. For an airborne adventure, floatplane tours take off from Green Lake and fly over the surrounding Coastal Mountains, glaciers and lush valleys. It’s also possible to fly from Whistler to Vancouver or Victoria Harbors.
There is plenty to do along Green Lake’s shores, too, beginning with the paved Whistler Valley trail that traces the lake’s western shore and connects it with the rest of the resort community. Along the pathway are stunning views and quiet picnic areas, while the 18-hole, par 71, Nicklaus North Golf Course sits on the lake’s southern shore.
A touch off the main trails on the east shore at the lake's narrowest point is Green River, a ghost town with few remnants of the original lumber mill that operated in the area in the early 1900s.
Practical Info
Green Lake is located alongside the Sea to Sky Highway, just north of Whistler Village. It lies between the Alpine Meadows and Emerald Estates residential areas.
