Charlottetown

It might be the capital and largest town of Prince Edward Island, but the historic port of Charlottetown also has a much more important claim to fame – as the birthplace of the Canadian Confederation, established at the 1864 Charlottetown Conference. Today, Charlottetown makes the obvious starting point for exploring the island, with easy access to the Prince Edward National Park and the Green Gables Heritage Place. Start your tour of Charlottetown at the legendary Province House, where the Canadian Confederation was created, then make a beeline for the Gothic St Dunstan’s Basilica, the Victorian-style Beaconsfield Historic House and the picturesque old harbor. The fascinating museum in the Founders’ Hall is another must, with exhibitions chronicling Canada’s long history, while the waterfront Victoria Park makes a prime photo spot, as well as being home to the landmark Government House.

Practical Info

Charlottetown is located at the center of Prince Edward Island, off the coast of southeast Canada.
