Their description alone certainly justifies a double take: pizzeria and ice-cream shop. What? Only in Montreal.
But despite the rather audacious mix, Gema Pizzeria passes the test with flying colors thanks to a refined, traditional but extremely tasty menu, which mostly consists of items bought at nearby Jean-Talon Market. Their location in Montreal's Little Italy would not take too kindly on false Italian food claims, and luckily for us, Gema Pizzeria stays true to its word. The decor itself, undertstated yet upscale-feeling, is like a breath of fresh air in the otherwise kitschy area. Food-wise, the YANN and IMPASTO pizzas have quickly become staples, and you should not hesitate to order them if they're on the menu.
But keep some room for dessert. To my knowledge, this is the only restaurant in Montreal whose carte des desserts only lists homemade frozen custard. You don't want to miss out on that!
