If you want to try the world’s best pinot noir, one of the most difficult wines to produce, you don’t need to fly to France. The Mission Hill winery in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley has mastered the secrets of the “heartbreak grape,” and received the top prize for best pinot noir under £15 (roughly $25) from the esteemed Decanter World Wine Awards. It is only one of some 125 wineries in the area. A tour of the valley’s great estates and small family-run vineyards is complimented by the stunning setting of rolling hills alongside the picturesque 80-mile long Okanagan Lake. The terrain makes for an easy day of cycling or you can opt for a chauffeured tour that will stop at several of the area’s top wineries.
