This 1900s heritage village depicts a way of life unfamiliar to most. Many Mennonite and Hutterite communities still exist in the area. Theres an annual watermelon festival in August.

Norman Wells Historical Centre
A labor of love, this small museum showcases regional history, geology, arts and crafts, and has information on the rivers and the Canol Heritage Trail. Theres a cool gift shop, too.

St James United Church
The excellent acoustics at St James United are coveted for organ and choir concerts as well as performances at the international jazz festival. The church was originally opened in 1889.

Huronia Museum & Huron
The Huronia Museum & Huron-Ouendat Village is a replica of a 500-year-old Huron-Ouendat settlement. The musuem houses a collection of almost a million pieces – not all are on display!

North West Mounted Police Barracks
The oldest surviving barracks in western Canada was built in 1893 and used by the Mounties until 1929. Today it is home to a small display of Mounties-themed memorabilia and a quaint tearoom.

Muir
The Muir-Cox Shipyard has been in almost continuous operation since 1820, turning out barks, yachts and fishing boats. Its still active year-round, but the interpretive center is seasonal.

East Quoddy Head Lighthouse
Four kilometers north of Wilsons Beach is East Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Whales browse offshore and many people sit along the rocky shoreline with binoculars enjoying the sea breezes.

Blue Sea Beach
Blue Sea Beach on the Malagash Peninsula has warm water and fine sand, and a marsh area just inland thats ideal for bird-watching. There are picnic tables and shelters to change in.

Dungeon Park
Nowhere is the power of water more evident than at the Dungeon, a deep chasm 90m in circumference that was created by the collapse of two sea caves, through which thunderous waves now slam the coast.

A hydroelectric prototype at the Annapolis River Causeway, Tidal Power has been harnessing power from the Bay of Fundy tides since 1984. An interpretive center includes models, exhibits and a video.

These powerful waterfalls, 52km west of Sault Ste-Marie on the side of Hwy 17, are at their best in spring when the volume of melting snow turns their otherwise steady flow into a thunderous roar.

Hometown hero William Avery (Billy) Bishop, Canadas notorious flying ace in WWI, is honored here at his childhood home, now the Billy Bishop Heritage Museum, celebrating Canadas aviation history.

Kids get the chance to play pilot or air traffic controller at the Western Canadian Aviation Museum with actual equipment that grown-ups use. Older kids will appreciate the many historic planes.

Watch Atlantic salmon start their mighty struggle upstream to spawn. Unfortunately, they do so under the pulp mills shadow. To get there, cross the river south of High St and follow the signs.

Railway Society of Newfoundland
Within historic Humbermouth Station, the Railway Society of Newfoundland has a good-looking steam locomotive and some narrow-gauge rolling stock that chugged across the province from 1921 to 1939.
