The hotel's most recent sustainability project is a partnership with the Ara Project, a local NGO which is dedicated to the conservation of Costa Rica's two species of macaw: the Great Green Macaw and the Scarlet Macaw. The group rehabilitates injured or rescued birds and eventually reintroduces them into the wild. Thanks to a generous donation by Hotel Punta Islita, the Ara Project is opening a new breeding center in Islita, as well as an education and viewing center, Lapa Lookout, where guests can learn more.
