A stunningly remote beach where you can slow down and soak up the beauty of the bay.

Playa Cocalito, a small, pretty beach near Agujitas is pleasant for swimming and sunbathing.

Museo Histórico Marino
This museum describes the history of Puntarenas through audiovisual presentations, old photos and artifacts.

Playa Caletas
This is one of the recommended spots for snorkeling. It is situated just in front of the Corcovado Adventures Tent Camp.

Mercado Borbón
The Mercado Borbón is more focused on produce, though it sells a bit of everything. (Be aware: the streets get sketchy around the Borbón.)

Sabanero Statue
A statue of a steely-eyed sabanero, complete with an evocative poem by Rodolfo Salazar Solórzano, stands watch over Av 25 de Julio, the main street into town.

A guide will show you around and introduce you to some 40 species of slithery snakes, plus a fair number of frogs, lizards, turtles and other cold-blooded critters.

Playa Bonita
There are no beaches for swimming or surfing in Limón, but if you are keen on getting in the water, Playa Bonita, 4km northwest of town, has a pleasant, sandy beach.

Museo de San José Orosi
Adjacent to Orosis church, this small museum displays interesting examples of Spanish-colonial religious art and artifacts, some of which date back to the 17th century.

Playa Manzanillo
About 8km north of the Playa El Carmen intersection, Playa Manzanillo is a combination of sand and rock that’s best surfed when the tide is rising and there’s an offshore wind.

Parque Vargas
The city’s waterfront centerpiece wont ever win best in show, but its decrepit bandstand, paths and greenery are surprisingly appealing, all shaded by palms and facing the docks.

Sea Wall
West of the park, the sea wall offers pleasant views of the rocky headland and the mesmerizing waves crashing against the concrete jetty. After dark, this is a popular mugging and make-out spot.

Universidad Nacional
The campus of Universidad Nacional is a great place for doing a little guerrilla learning. Keep an eye out for posters advertising cultural offerings and special events happening around the city.
