A protected wildlife area replenished by a subterranean spring, Arroyo San José is rumored to have been a refuge for 18th-century pirates between raids on Spanish galleons. A riverside Paseo del Estero (Marshland Trail) runs parallel to Blvd Mijares all the way to the Zona Hotelera.
