Chacchoben Ruins
For years, the Chacchoben Ruins lay dormant as a silent testament to the ancient civilization of the Mayas. Today, Chacchoben is one of the most frequented ruin destinations on the Mayan Riviera. Discover the might of the ancient Mayans through a guided tour of Mayan history that includes the myths of creation, war, sacrifice and the great collapse of the civilization. Feel the sense of adventure as you explore the ancient ritualistic heartland, once the place of kings and queens, and now open for guests from far and wide.
Only recently discovered by modern Mayans in 1946, this highly regarded architectural relic makes for prime exploring and great day trips from Cancun. Snap pictures of resident tropical plants and animals –including local spider monkeys.
Practical Info
The Chacchoben Ruins are located about 110 miles (177 km) south of Tulum and are open from 8am to 5pm every day. For your best chance at avoiding crowds and encountering animals, visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
