The state capital of Quintana Roo, Chetumal is a vibrant port city on the peninsula’s east coast.
Chetumal has a rich Mayan past, preserved in the city’s Museum of Maya Culture. The history of the port is told in the Museum of the City.
The city has several parks for relaxation, and further afield there’s Belize, just over the border. Between the two countries is a duty-free shopping zone.
Chetumal is on the Yucatan Peninsula’s east coast, 382 km (235 miles) south of Cancun.
The city is at the southern end of the Riviera Maya, on the border with Belize.
