MACAY Museum (Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Ateneo de Yucatan)
This contemporary art museum right off the Grand Plaza houses permanent and visiting exhibits. The former include the work of several Yucatecan artists, the most famous being the Governor’s Palace muralist Fernando Castro Pacheco. Visiting exhibits are generally from other parts of Mexico, but occasionally from other countries in Latin America as well.
The type of media can vary greatly depending on the artists, but there usually a sculpture exhibit just outside the entrance and the permanent collection spans sculpture, painting, and mixed media.
