Beechworth’s main attraction is the group of well-preserved, honey-tinged buildings that make up the Historic & Cultural Precinct – if you're going to visit more than a couple of the museums, it's worth buying the combined ticket. First is the Town Hall , where you’ll find the visitors centre and the free Echoes of History audio-visual tour. Across the road is the Beechworth Courthouse , where the trials of many key historical figures took place, including those of Ned Kelly and his mother; their cells can still be seen. Behind the courthouse is the Old Police Station Museum . You can send a telegram to anywhere in the world from the Telegraph Station on Ford St, the original Morse-code office. Walk through to Loch St to the Burke Museum , which is named after the hapless explorer Robert O’Hara Burke, who was Beechworth’s superintendent of police before he set off on his historic trek north with William Wills.
