Herring Island is a prelapsarian garden that seeks to preserve the original trees and grasses of the Yarra and provide a home for indigenous animals. Within is an impressive collection of environmental sculpture, including work by Andy Goldsworthy (UK) and locals Julie Collins, Robert Jacks and Robert Bridgewater. There are designated picnic and BBQ areas. On weekends during summer, Parks Victoria punt operates from Como Landing on Alexandra Ave in South Yarra; other times you'll need a kayak to get here.
