The stretch of the Sunshine Coast that makes up Maroochydore is a a surfer's heaven, and as such, is a popular destination with those chasing waves. Over 15 miles (25km) of beach lends itself to surfing, swimming, jet-skiing, picnicking, or just relaxing. Surfing competitions are not uncommon, so be sure to keep your eye out for the pros.
In addition to the beach, the Maroochy River is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon, and also offers ample fishing opportunities. There are also a lot of good bike and walking paths on and around the coast, with plenty of gorgeous sights to see along the way.
On Sundays, go by the amazing flea market that features crafts and gifts as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. After a day in the sun, check out the Maroochy Surf Club, a wonderful restaurant, bar, and casino, or the Sunshine Plaza, a large shopping complex with over 200 stores.
Just north of town is Underwater Wold, a wonderful aquarium experience for visitors of all ages.
