Australia’s largest collection of big cats call the National Zoo & Aquarium in Canberra home, along with a wide variety of native and exotic animals and fish at Australia’s only combined aquarium and zoo.
Swimming in the largest inland saltwater tank in the country are sharks and reef sharks, while tropical fish and river fish have their own enclosures.
Optional extras to choose from include an interactive encounter with a cheetah, family tours, keeper talks, safari tours, the Zookeeper for a Day experience and the deluxe Walk on the Wildside tour meeting cougars, giraffes, lions, sharks, bears and monkeys.
The National Zoo & Aquarium is 9 km (5.5 mi) west of downtown Canberra. Buses run here at weekends and during ACT school holidays.
