Cockle Bay Wharf
The first vaguely tasteful development in Darling Harbour, Cockle Bay Wharf occupies the harbour鈥檚 cityside frontage as far as Pyrmont Bridge. Its sharp, contemporary angles are softened by the use of timber and whimsical sculptures (we particularly like the jaunty dancing storks).

Chowilla Regional Reserve
Upstream from town, Chowilla is great for bush camping (per person/car $6/10), canoeing and bushwalking. Access is along the north bank from Renmark or along the south bank from Paringa. For more info, contact the Department of Environment, Water & Natural Resources in Berri.

Campbell Town Museum
The curio-strewn, volunteer-run museum features histories of characters such as John Batman and Martin Cash (a local bushranger) and sundry old artefacts such as an amazing 1930s film projector, once used by the Bye brothers, who screened Saturday-night movies here in the 1930s.

Boston Bay Wines
Seems like everywhere you go in SA these days theres a winery cellar door (鈥ell, except the desert). Port Lincoln is no exception. On the northern outskirts of town, Boston Bay Wines does a mean merlot and a Great White sauvignon blanc, in keeping with the local aquatic fauna.

Barringwood Park Vineyard
Lovers of fine food and wine should visit Barringwood Park Vineyard, which has tastings and cellar-door sales of handcrafted cool-climate wines. You can savour a gourmet platter with your vino on the deck and be awed by glorious views over the Don River Valley towards Bass Strait.

Anzac Hill
For a tremendous view, particularly at sunrise and sunset, take a hike (use Lions Walk from Wills Tce) or a drive up to the top of Anzac Hill, known as Untyeyetweleye in Arrernte. From the war memorial there is a 365-degree view over the town down to Heavitree Gap and the Ranges.

Tropical Fruit World
North of town under the Big Avocado, this fruity theme park鈥損lantation claims to have the worlds largest collection of rare and tropical fruit 鈥?500 varieties in total. It offers guided tractor tours, tastings, boat rides, native critters, a petting zoo and a miniature train.

Western Plains Cultural Centre
Incorporating Dubbos regional museum and gallery plus a lovely cafe, the cultural centre is housed in a swanky architectural space cleverly incorporating the main hall of Dubbos former high school. The combination befits the centres exhibitions, both contemporary and historic.

Rosalind Park
In the city centre, this lovely green space has lawns, big old trees, fernery and the fabulous Cascades Fountain , which was excavated after being buried for 120 years. Climb to the top of the lookout tower for sensational 360-degree views or wander through the Conservatory Gardens

Rushcutters Bay Park
Surrounded by enormous Moreton Bay fig trees, luxury yachts and pampered pooches, this unpretentious waterfront park is a beaut spot for a quiet stroll, jog or tennis grudge-match. In December the world鈥檚 greatest yachties prepare for the gruelling Sydney to Hobart race here.

Polly Woodside
The Polly Woodside is a restored iron-hulled merchant ship (or 鈥榯all ship鈥?, dating from 1885, that now rests in a pen off the Yarra River. A glimpse of the rigging makes for a tiny reminder of what the Yarra would have looked like in the 19th century, dense with ships at anchor.

Hellenic Museum
Housed in a beautiful Renaissance revival鈥搒tyle building that was formerly the Royal Mint, this small museum is dedicated to Greek immigrants who moved here in the 1950s and the legacy theyve left on the city 鈥?the third biggest Greek-speaking city behind Athens and Boston.

Ashgrove Farm Cheese
Journey 15km north of Deloraine to Elizabeth Town to find this award-winning cheese factory. You can watch the cheeses being made on weekdays and then sample the fine results in the tasting room/providore. The milk bar serves pies and platters, and milkshakes and ice creams aplenty

Archer Park Rail Museum
This museum is housed in a former train station built in 1899. Through photographs and displays it tells the station鈥檚 story, and that of the unique Purrey steam tram. Take a ride on the restored tram (the only remaining one of its kind in the world!) every Sunday from 10am to 1pm.

Allendale Gardens & Rainforest
The Allendale Gardens & Rainforest is signposted off Blanche Rd (which is off the B22), 12km south of Smithton towards Edith Creek. There are 6.5 acres of bird-filled gardens and 26 hectares of old temperate rainforest to forget yourself in, plus a cafe serving Devonshire tea.

Cooberrie Park
About 15km north of Yeppoon, Cooberrie Park is a small wildlife sanctuary on 25 acres of bushland. You can see kangaroos, wallabies and peacocks wandering freely through the grounds. You can also feed the critters and, for an extra cost, hold a furry koala or some slithering reptil

Nobbies Centre
The Nobbies Centre is a sort of gigantic cafe and souvenir shop with an interpretive centre tacked on, but there are some great interactive panels and games. You can only see the 10,000 to 20,000 Australian fur seals by paying $5 to control a remote video camera for four minutes.

Low Head Pilot Station Museum
Helping ships navigate into the treacherous mouth of the Tamar River, whitewashed Low Head Pilot Station is Australia鈥檚 oldest (1805) and houses an interesting maritime museum cluttered with historical displays and mandatory rusty anchors. Theres a cafe and accommodation , too.

Narana Creations
On the road to Torquay in Grovedale, on Geelongs far outskirts, this Aboriginal cultural centre has didgeridoo performances (or play it yourself), a boomerang-throwing gallery and a native garden. Daily tours are at 11am and 2pm, and its gift shop sells Indigenous books and music.
