Island Pure Sheep Dairy
Near Cygnet River, 12km from Kingscote, this dairy features 1500 sheep lining up to be milked (from 2pm daily). Take a tour of the factory, which includes yogurt and cheese tastings (the haloumi is magic).

Kununurra Historical Society Museum
Old photographs and newspaper articles document Kununurras history, including the story of a wartime Wirraway aircraft crash and the subsequent recovery mission. The museum is opposite the country club exit.

Gold Museum
Sitting on an old mine across the road from Sovereign Hill, the Gold Museum has exhibits including nuggets, coins and a display on the Eureka Rebellion. Entry is included in the entry fee for Sovereign Hill.

Forest & Heritage Centre
In the town centre, this wood-lined building houses displays delving into the forestry heritage of the area. Its also the towns unofficial visitor information centre and sells Tahune Forest AirWalk tickets.

Floreat Beach
A generally uncrowded beach, but it can sometimes be windy. Theres good swimming, surfing, cafes and a playground. Catch bus 84 (85 on weekends) from the Roe St bus station to City Beach and walk north 800m.

Burke & Wills Monument
For a good view over town, head up to the Burke and Wills Monument on Wills St (follow Lyttleton St east of the centre). Robert O鈥橦ara Burke was a police superintendent in Castlemaine before his fateful trek.

Big Rig Complex
The major landmark in Roma is the Big Rig Complex , a museum of oil and gas exploration centred on the old, steam-operated oil rig at the eastern edge of town. There鈥檚 also a nightly sound-and-light show.

Beechworth Honey Experience
Beechworth Honey Experience takes you into the world of honey and bees with a self-guided audiovisual tour, a live hive and honey tastings. The shop sells locally made honey, beeswax candles, nougat and soaps.

Cairns Regional Gallery
The permanent collection of this acclaimed gallery, housed in the heritage-listed former State Government Insurance Office (1936), has an emphasis on local and Indigenous work. Theres also usually a visiting exhibition.

River Lands Gallery
As the murals and totem poles around the base of Berri Bridge attest, Berri is an arty kinda town. This gallery displays local, Indigenous and travelling painting, sculpture, weaving and digital media exhibitions.

Ravens Croft Wines
Highly respected winemaker producing superb reds (petit verdot, cabernet sauvignon and South African pinotage) and whites (including a top-notch Verdelho). Its a modest cellar door in the backcountry west of Stanthorpe.

Olson Game Birds
For one fabulous jaunt, get a map and drive out to Olson Pheasant Farm , where game birds are reared, native birds are on display and peacocks wander around looking gorgeous. Take a picnic or ring ahead if you鈥檇 like lunch.

Old Dubbo Gaol
This is a museum where animatronic characters tell their stories. There are also characters in costume and guided tours on weekends (daily in school holidays); twilight tours are possible too. Creepy but authentic.

Bells Beach
The powerful point break at Bells Beach is part of international surfing folklore and is the site for world championship surfing contests every Easter. You can hire surf gear or, for newcomers, take a lesson or two.

Burleigh Head National Park
A walk around the headland through Burleigh Head National Park is a must for any visitor 鈥?it鈥檚 a 27-hectare rainforest reserve with plenty of bird life and several walking trails. Great views of the Burleigh surf en route.

Mary Poppins Statue
On the street in front of the neoclassical former Union Bank (birthplace of Mary Poppins creator, PL Travers) is a life-size statue of the acerbic character Travers created rather than the saccharine Disney version.

Murrays Craft Brewing Co.
This brewery is the creator of cult recipes such as the award-winning Murray鈥檚 Grand Cru, a hybrid of Belgian Trippel and Golden Strong Ale styles. Also on site is the Port Stephens Winery with an expansive cellar door.

Murray River National Park
Road access to the scenic Katarapko Creek section of the Murray River National Park is off the Stuart Hwy between Berri and Barmera. This is a beaut spot for bush camping (per car/person $10/6), canoeing and birdwatching.

A superb gallery with cutting-edge Aboriginal and confronting contemporary artwork. Its in an industrial area surrounded by car yards and hairdressing equipment suppliers 鈥?if it looks closed, just turn the door handle.

Jirndarwurrunha Pool
A short stroll from the Millstream-Chichester National Park visitor centre, beautiful lily and palm-fringed Jirndarwurrunha is strongly significant to the traditional Yindjibarndi owners. Swimming is not permitted.
