Inaugurated in 2014, the Albany Heritage Park incorporates the National Anzac Centre, Princess Royal Fortress, Padre White Lookout, Desert Mounted Corps Memorial and the Ataturk Memorial.

Brennan & Geraghtys Store
This National Trust鈥揷lassified store traded for 100 years before closing its doors. The museum is crammed with tins, bottles and packets, including early Vegemite jars and curry powder from the 1890s.

Army Museum of WA
Situated within the imposing Artillery Barracks, this little museum pulls out the big guns, literally. Howitzers and tanks line up outside, while inside youll find cabinets full of uniforms and medals.

A underutilised, steep-roofed Launceston landmark (now a convention venue), built in 1891 in classical Victorian style. Inside the Great Hall is the Brindley Organ, Australias largest pre-1860 organ.

This astonishing Tudor Gothic confection and 52-room mansion, north of the town centre, is one of Bathursts more impressive structures. Take Durham St heading northwest then follow the signs.

Built in 1916, this 12-storey building was Australia鈥檚 first steel-framed 鈥榮kyscraper鈥? At the time of writing, it was in the process of a major redevelopment, with a glass tower being grafted on to it.

For a blistering sunset without tourists, camels or 4WDs, pull into any of the turn-offs along Kavite Rd between Gantheaume Point and the port and watch the pindan cliffs turn into molten lava.

Queensland Maritime Museum
On the southern edge of the South Bank Parklands is this sea-salty museum, the highlight of which is the gigantic HMAS Diamantina , a restored WWII frigate that you can clamber aboard and explore.

Kelp Industries Pty Ltd processes bull kelp seaweed for export to Scotland for alginate extraction. See the kelp drying on racks by the roadside, or duck into the visitor centre for more info.

Fireworks Gallery
The excellent Fireworks Gallery is a commercial space dedicated to contemporary Australian and Aboriginal art. Life-size sculptures of emus made from barbed wire were on display when we passed through.

Erskine Falls
Head out of town to see this lovely waterfall. It鈥檚 an easy walk to the viewing platform, or 250 (often slippery) steps down to its base, from where you can explore further or head back on up.
