Conspicuous Cliffs
Midway between Nornalup and Peaceful Bay, Conspicuous Cliffs is a good spot for whale watching from July to November. Theres a hilltop lookout and a steepish 800m walk to the beach.

Waterman鈥檚 Cottage
Balmain鈥檚 frangipani-scented streets contain dozens of historically significant buildings, most of which are privately owned. Darling St is home to Waterman鈥檚 Cottage, built in 1841.

Robert Channon Wines
Lots of trophy-winning wines (it was the first winery in Queensland to be awarded five stars by James Halliday), and a buzzy weekend cafe with views over a pretty lake. Try the Verdelho.

Reconciliation Place
On the shore of Lake Burley Griffin, the artwork of Reconciliation Pl represents the nations commitment to the cause of reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Reef Beach
Despite what you might have heard, this little cove on the Manly Scenic Walkway is neither nude nor full of dudes; the Manly Council put paid to that in 1993. Now its often deserted.

Yaruman Artists Centre
Sitting on the edge of the Tanami, 162km from Halls Creek, Yarumans acrylic works feature the many local soaks (waterholes). The weekly mail run from Kununurra stops here (Ringer Soak).

Wild Dog Winery
The excellent Wild Dog Winery is one of Gippsland鈥檚 first wineries. It produces a great range of wines, all grown and bottled on its 30 acres, and has fabulous views across the Strzeleckis.

Rockford Wines
One of our favourite boutique Barossa wineries, this 1850s cellar door sells traditionally made, small-range wines, including sparkling reds. The Black Shiraz is a sparkling, spicy killer.

Oak Lodge
One of Richmond鈥檚 oldest homes (c 1831), Oak Lodge is now owned by the National Trust and operated by the Coal River Historic Society. Inside is a museum zooming-in on colonial life.

Spring Vale Wines
Down a long driveway in Cranbrook, 15km north of Swansea, this winery is on land owned by the same family since 1875. The cellar door is housed in an 1842 stable. Dont miss the pinot gris.

Monte Cristo
Built in 1884, the mansion of Monte Cristo is open for self tours and Devonshire tea. It was the home of a shrewd landowner named Christopher Crawley who haunts the place apparently.

Mimosa Rocks National Park
Running along 20km of beautiful coastline, Mimosa Rocks National Park is 5802 hectares of earthly paradise with dense and varied bush, caves, headlands and beaches with crystal-clear water.

Merrepen Arts
Around 20 artists work in a variety of traditional and contemporary media at this centre. Displays may include etchings, screen prints, acrylic paintings, carvings, weaving and textiles

Porcupine Gorge National Park
Porcupine Gorge National Park is an oasis in the dry country 70km north of Hughenden. The best spot is Pyramid Lookout; you can camp here, and it鈥檚 an easy 30-minute walk into the gorge.

Penneshaw Maritime & Folk Museum
Displays artefacts from local shipwrecks and early settlement (check out those girthsome millstones!), plus endearingly geeky models of Flinders Investigator and Baudins Geographe .

Pilots Cottages
Queenscliff鈥檚 grandest historic buildings line beachfront Gellibrand St like the row of old pilots鈥?cottages dating back to 1853. Pick up a heritage walk brochure from the visitor centre.

Geraldton Regional Art Gallery
With an excellent permanent collection, including paintings by Norman Lindsay and Elizabeth Durack, this gallery also presents provocative contemporary work and regular touring exhibitions.

Coral Reef By Night
Hosted by the Indo-Pacific Marine Exhibition, this evening includes a tour of the aquarium, seafood dinner (on biodegradable plates, no less!) and an impressive show of fluorescing animals.

Cairns Museum
This history museum has exhibits on the construction of the Cairns鈥揔uranda railway, the contents of a Chinese temple and displays on the Palmer River and Hodgkinson River goldfields.

ArtGeo Cultural Complex
Grouped around the old courthouse (1856), this complex includes tea rooms, wood turners, an artist-in-residence and the Busselton Art Societys gallery, selling works by local artists.
