Historic Cardwell Post Office & Telegraph Station

In lovely grounds around 10km west of Mt Barker, West Cape Howe Wines are regular award winners for their riesling, merlot and cabernet sauvignon.

Good surf with a hardcore group of locals who come out when the surfs up; dangerous when rough and prone to rips 鈥?always swim between the flags.

On the C124 at Gunns Plains is Leven Valley Vineyard & Gallery, a boutique vineyard where you can taste and buy wine and browse fine art.

Nature Boardwalk
Follows the estuary 1.75km southwest of the causeway around mangroves, oyster farms and melaleucas. Birds, mammals and crustaceans are all visible.

Mill Cottage
Sadly, Port Lincoln hasn鈥檛 managed to preserve many of its original buildings. In Flinders Park, Mill Cottage , built in 1866, has somehow survived.

Chateau Mildura
Established in 1888 and still producing table wines, Chateau Mildura is part vineyard and part museum, with wine tastings and historical displays.

The multicultural Carnarvon Pioneer Cemetery is worth a wander; it鈥檚 the final resting place of pioneers from as far away as Afghanistan and China.

With a maze, crazy illusion rooms, minigolf, a puzzle island and lots of activities, this whacky fun park is great for kids, but gets the adults in too.

Afghan Mosque
This simple corrugated-iron building was erected around 1891. Afghani cameleers helped open up the outback; the mosque was built on the site of a camel camp.

Purling Brook Falls
Just off Springbrook Rd, the feathery Purling Brook Falls drop a rather astonishing 109m into the rainforest: check them out from the vertigo-inducing lookout.

Just off Orient St, this has displays relating to local history. Just behind the museum is the small Water Garden Town Park and a boardwalk through wetlands.

Forty Baskets Beach
On the Manly Scenic Walkway, just before heading into the Balgowlah Heights section of Sydney Harbour National Park. The picnic area is cut off at high tide.

Joss House Temple
Painted red, the traditional colour for strength, this is the only remaining practising joss house in central Victoria. Its 2km northwest of the centre.

Jack Riley鈥檚 grave, in the town cemetery, is inscribed with the words, 鈥業n memory of the Man from Snowy River, Jack Riley, buried here 16th July 1914鈥?
