At the south end of the township in a large, concrete castle is the National Army Museum, which preserves the history of the NZ army and its various campaigns, from colonial times to the present. Its moving stories are well told through displays of arms, uniforms, memorabilia and other collections. Until mid-2018, the museum will be hosting a series of special exhibitions marking the centenary of WWI.
