While Richie McCaw might get all the attention these days, Kurow's other famous son was Arnold Nordmeyer (1901–1989), a Labour Party leader who was one of the key architects of NZ's welfare and public health system. His memory is honoured in this interesting community museum, which jokingly refers to itself as the National Museum of Social Security.
