Spread out on different mezzanines, this museum makes sense of Argentina’s chaotic economic history. It includes good, well-lit displays on the country’s early economic regions, the financing of political independence and the establishment of public credit. There are also interesting exhibits on paper money and counterfeiting, which have no doubt been scrupulously studied by BA’s producers of phony banknotes. Examples of old currency, such as the million-peso bill from 1981, give an idea of the hyperinflation porteños have had to live with in the past. Handiest of all for the traveler: one display offers tips on distinguishing between real and fake paper money.
