Argentina’s Dirty War (1976-83) was the darkest chapter in its history. Human-rights groups estimate that up to 30,000 people were kidnapped, tortured and killed under the military dictatorship of Jorge Rafael Videla. Most of these atrocities happened right here at this old Naval campus called ESMA, described by some as Argentina’s Auschwitz. Today these buildings have been turned into a museum as a memorial for these victims, and a way to help prevent such an unimaginable occurrence from happening again.
ESMA is located just north of Belgrano in the neighborhood of Nuñez.
