The city’s unmistakable landmark is the famous Obelisco, which soars 67m above the oval Plaza de la República and was dedicated in 1936, on the 400th anniversary of the first Spanish settlement on the Río de la Plata. Following major soccer victories, boisterous fans circle the Obelisco in jubilant, honking celebration.
The obelisco is also often used as the zero point for measuring distances from the city center. Unfortunately, you can't enter the structure – you'll have to admire it from outside.
