Museo Akatushun
The skeletons of marine mammals and seabirds are poignantly displayed at the Museo Akatushun, at Estancia Harberton.
The museum is part of ongoing scientific research into Tierra del Fuego’s dolphins and other wildlife, and was established more than 35 years ago by Natalie Goodall, the wife of Haberton’s manager.
The skeletons of more than 2,700 marine mammals and 2,300 birds are collected here in this working museum/laboratory.
The highlight is the re-created underwater scene of taxidermied dolphins and seals, some revealing their skeletons for the ultimate biology lesson. If you’re feeling brave, you can visit the Bone House, where the bones of the specimens are cleaned.
