Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Pilar
Next door to the cemetery, this 1732 baroque colonial church has a small museum (historic cloisters) to the left and upstairs.

Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Belén
Near Plaza Dorrego, this baroque, neocolonial building was a Jesuit school until 1767, when the Bethlemite order took it over.

Capilla de los Escaladores
A simple chapel of Austrian design memorializes the many climbers who have lost their lives to the precarious peaks since 1953.

Bodega El Esteco
This corporate affair on the northern edge of town is a smart and attractive winery producing some of the region’s best wines.

Iglesia La Merced
With the usual mélange of styles of Argentine churches, this has a high white facade that makes it an imposing landmark.

Waterfalls
There are a couple of waterfalls about 10km north of town. These are all most accessible by bus in January and February.

Palacio Municipal
Opposite the cathedral is the Palacio Municipal, designed in German Renaissance style by Hanoverian architect Hubert Stiers.

Cerro Tunduqueral
An easy 8km walk north of town brings you to Cerro Tunduqueral, where you’ll find sweeping views and Inca rock carvings.

Arañitas Hilanderas
This cooperative is a good place to see weavers at work and buy their goods. Follow Belgrano past the Hotel Belén to find it.

Palacio del Mate
Better than the towns other desultory museums, this art gallery has temporary exhibitions and some displays on the mate -growing process.

Molino Harinero
The historic center Dolavon is full of brick buildings, including the 1880 Molino Harinero, with still-functioning flour mill machinery.

Museo del Mate
For something special, visit this museum with over 2000 items dedicated to the national drink. There’s a small outdoor mate ‘bar’ as well.

Granja San José
Just before the entrance to Sarmiento on the way to the petrified forest, Granja San José is a hydroponics farm selling exquisite jams.

Standard Bank
Closer to Plaza de Mayo is the Spanish Renaissance Standard Bank building, often sprayed with graffiti and the locus of noisy activities.

Pulenta Estate
A boutique winery started by the ex-owners of the Trapiche label. Tours of the beautiful modern facility focus on tasting, not production.

Parque Yatana Park
Part art project, part urban refuge, a city block of lenga forest is preserved from encroaching development by one determined family.

Iglesia Parroquial Nuestra Señora de la Merced
From 1643 to 1762, Jesuit fathers built the Iglesia Parroquial Nuestra Señora de la Merced, the estancia’s most impressive building.

Sendero Triásico
This Triassic path takes you past life-size replicas of dinosaurs whose fossilized remains have been found in the Talampaya area.

La Azul
A small winery producing excellent malbecs. Tours are in Spanish only, but focus mainly on tasting – you’re in and out in 20 minutes.
