The longtime Museum of Rubber was closed for renovation when we passed through, but is well-worth a second look for its fascinating history of rubber tapping in Acre. The museum's three rooms have displays ranging from how tappers learned to extract the milky sap without killing the tree (a tool called a cabrita , meaning 'little goat', was key) to the life and work of Chico Mendes and the Rural Workers Union.
