Ilha do Mel
This quiet island off the coast of Parana is home to some of Brazil’s most pristine stretches of sandy beaches. Rustic trails and zero roads mean there’s a truly remote feel to this hourglass shaped island. Sun worshipers will find plenty of options for beach combing and relaxing, but there’s more than fun in the sun at Ilha do Mel.
To the north, visitors can explore an ecological preserve that’s home to diverse plant and wild life, and to the south, travelers will find hilly mountain trails, small villages and plenty of wooden wonder to explore. Still, those who prefer the water to land can get their fill of surfing and snorkeling on this serene island and find a sweet escape from the hustle of Rio.
Practical Info
Ilha do Mel is located at the entrance to Baia de Paranagua and accessible by ferry from Paranagua. Ferries that make fewer stops are available out of Pontal do Sul.
