Once an important fundo (farm), this complex of restored 19th-century buildings is a cultural landmark and a wonderful example of colonial architecture. It was damaged in the 2010 earthquake and the museum (containing folk art, religious tableaux, and the basin where local hero Bernardo O'Higgins was baptized) was forced to close.
At the time of writing, the space had opened for special events and festivals, and it's worth a trip to check out the building's old adobe walls and the surrounding gardens filled with sequoias, araucarias, magnolias, palms and oaks. Ask at Talca's Ruta del Vino office for more information. It's located 7km east of Talca; all buses to San Clemente from Talca's bus station pass Huilquilemu.
