Unusual for its inland location, Ahu Akivi, restored in 1960, sports seven restored moai . They are the only ones that face towards the sea, but, like all moai, they overlook the site of a village, traces of which can still be seen. The site has proved to have astronomical significance: at the equinoxes, the seven statues look directly at the setting sun.
