Torre Colpatria
The tallest building in Colombia, and second tallest in South America, clocks in at an ear-popping 196 meters (643 feet), rising to fifty stories above the capital. Constructed in 1979 at the intersection of Calle 26 (Avenida El Dorado) and Carrera 7, it watches over one of the most important crossroads in the city. And from there, the city can look back up and admire Colpatria Tower’s colorful light display.
The building, impressive enough on its own, is illuminated by 26 xenon-filled tubes that change colors throughout the night. But the best views can be had by visiting the observation deck on the 49th floor, currently open to the public only on weekends and holidays. Note that is closes at 5pm, well before sunset.
