Museo Arquidiocesano de Arte Religioso
You dont have to be an expert on religious art to be impressed by this collection of paintings, statues, altar pieces, silverware and liturgical vessels, most of which date from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Cascada Chocolatal
Near the south end of town youll find this impressive waterfall that empties into an icy-cold swimming hole. The jungle towers over you on both sides of the riverbank in a cascade of flowers and birdsong.

Catedral Metropolitana
This modern cathedral was completed in 1982. Dont be put off by its squat, heavy, somewhat bunkerlike exterior – go inside. The beautiful interior features a number of impressive and large stained-glass windows.

Museo Arqueológico la Merced
Housed in the former La Merced convent, Calis oldest building, this interesting museum contains a collection of pre-Columbian pottery left behind by the major cultures from central and southern Colombia.

Fábrica de Licores
This huge colonial factory once supplied the entire region with its boozy needs. Today, the Fábrica de Licores is a museum with rotating exhibits by artists such as renowned Colombian painter Duván López.

Alto de San Andrés (1750m)
This site is visible from town and has six large tombs; two have remarkably well-preserved paintings. One of the tombs is closed because of structural instability and humidity, and another has caved in completely.

Museo de Antropología
On the 1st floor of the building of the Universidad del Atlántico, this musuem displays a small collection of pre-Columbian pottery from different regions, including pieces from the Calima, Tumaco and Nariño cultures.

Palacio de la Cultura Rafael Uribe Uribe
Palacio de la Cultura Rafael Uribe Uribe , adjacent to the Berrío metro station in an ornate black-and-white building, hosts concerts and events, art expositions, conferences and workshops. Check its website for what’s on.

Museo de Arte Religioso
This museum occupies the former Jesuit college constructed in the 1730s, next door to Iglesia de Santa Bárbara. It has a fine collection of colonial religious art, including paintings by Gregorio Vásquez de Arce y Ceballos.

Museo Universitario
On the campus of the Universidad de Antioquia be sure to check out the Museo Universitario . It has an interesting collection of pre-Columbian pottery, as well as galleries devoted to art and the natural sciences.

Cementerio Municipal
Mompoxs cemetery is one of the most striking spots in town to visit. Whitewashed graves and slots for remains are stacked high atop each other, sometimes six together, forming a wall of tombstones around a central chapel.

Coconut House
A curious house and ecopark project run by the courtly and welcoming Mr Forbes. The house, every single part of it, including all of its decorations, are made of coconut. Its located behind the restaurant at West View.

PNN Ensenada de Utría
This national park surrounding a narrow inlet of water is one of the best places to see whales close-up from land. During the calving season they enter the ensenada (inlet) and play just a few hundred meters from shore.

El Aguacate (2000m)
The most remote burial site at Tierradentro, El Aguacate offers the best views but most of the dozens of tombs here have been destroyed by guaqueros (tomb raiders). Only a few vaults still bear the remains of the original decoration.

Pueblito Paisa
On top of the 80m-tall hill known as Cerro Nutibara, 2km southwest of the city center, sits the kitschy Pueblito Paisa, a miniature version of typical Antioquian township. Views from an adjacent platform across the city are stunning.

Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín
In a refurbished industrial building in Ciudad del Río, El MAMM showcases changing exhibitions of contemporary art. A large new wing that is to house the permanent collection was under construction at the time of research.

Bolívar Desnudo
The centerpiece of Plaza Bolívar is Rodrigo Arenas Betancurs 8.5m-high, 11-tonne bronze statue of the Liberator, naked on horseback, urging his stallion forward with a manic passion, buttocks clenched to his plunging mount.

Museo Uirapuru
Museo Uirapuru is in the rear section of Leticia’s largest craft shop. Less a museum than the personal collection of the shop owner; displays include indigenous artifacts, dried plants and woods, and preserved reptiles and animals.

Getsemaní
Getsemaní, the outer walled town, is less impressive than Cartagenas old city but has some charming places and is well worth exploring. It is less tourist-oriented, but not as safe - take extra precautions, especially at night.

El Tablón, La Chaquira, La Pelota & El Purutal
These four sites are relatively close to each other; most people visit as part of a horseback-riding tour. Dont miss La Chaquira, with divinities carved into the mountain face. It overlooks the stunning gorge of the Río Magdalena.
