Areguá is renowned for its ceramics, displayed en masse along the main street. The historic cobbled lanes are lined with exquisite colonial homes, and the village atmosphere is completed with a church perched on the hill and an enviable position overlooking Lago Yparacaí.
La Aregueña buses run the 27km every half hour from Av República Argentina just outside the Asunción bus terminal.
A ferry from San Bernardino operates to Areguá in the high season.
