This fine church has an image of the patron saint that is venerated by pilgrims during Semana Santa and again in October. The streets surrounding the Plaza de Armas display a few impressive Spanish colonial mansions, including along the first block of Libertad. The church tower fell in the 2007 earthquake, but the dome survived. Years later, it is still undergoing extensive renovations.
