The Concept of Cheap Flights
Nowadays, there are many private operators in the airline industry. In order to sustain in the market, they are all introducing exciting offers and deals to compete with each other and attract passengers. On a fundamental level, customers must first understand that a flight fare consist of a minimum base fare. The major components of a flight ticket are made up of fuel surcharge and tax elements. Today, domestic airlines in India have become so cheap that it is possible for all classes of people to at least dream about flying on a plane. Cheap flights are those that have a very meagre base fares. For example, there are many private airlines that announce in their advertisements this way - Fly from Mumbai to Delhi at Rs 99*(the star symbol here means that this offer has certain conditions to it). The general public should understand that this Rs 99 advertised here refers only to the base fare and that they still may need to pay for the fuel surcharge and tax charges that might run into a few thousands.
Booking in advance
Domestic airlines in India have announced today various schemes wherein customers get around 30% to 50% discount on their air fares when booked about 60 to 90 days in advance. These discounts might apply for a few sectors and the scheme as such would be valid for a few days only. Such schemes motivate the people to plan their travel well in advance, thereby striking good deals on their air fares. It always takes one private operator to make the announcement, post which, lots of other operators join the competition. The private airline industry today is dominated by operators like SpiceJet, GoAir, Indigo, Jet Airways, Jet Konnect etc. All these operators have a great connectivity of flights among all the important cities of the country. These are either direct flights or connecting flights.
Air India Express - the low cost airline from the national sector
Amidst all the private flight operators today, Air India Express is the only national carrier in India. It is the cheap-flight operator and a subsidiary of the national carrier, Air India. Established during 2004, this was the initiative taken by the Government after repeated requests from the huge Malayalee community in Middle East countries. The Air India Express has its headquarters in the city of Kochi in Kerala. The destination countries of Air India Express are mostly the ones in the Middle East and South East Asia. Flights originate from the important southern states of India like Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The tagline of Air India Express is "Simply Priceless" and it truly lives up to this name. Despite being a cheap flight operator, Air India Express gives utmost importance to its passengers and hence gives complementary light meal boxes (both veg and non-veg) to them. This is probably the only low cost airline to do so. The services of Air India Express are so efficient, that every week, there is an average of 100 flights that leave from South India to Middle East and South East Asia.
