Founded in 1991, Mesco airlines are private charter company in India. The parent company of Mesco airlines is the Mesco Group was very well known group. Mesco group was multi business entity which was in business of electrical appliances, shoes, pharma, steel and much more. Mesco airline began with agro spraying activities over plantation crops and then moved on to air taxi segment. Based in Delhi, they provide both helicopter and plane charter services. They have big fleet with around 6 aircrafts or more. Mesco Airlines also called MAL has the government contract for charter services. It has been hired by state governments of Orissa, Himachal Pradesh as well as top companies like ONGC.

Mesco group have been in many controversies all the time. Its airline license has been suspended for 4 days as it used foreign pilots without even getting clearance from registered authorities. However the biggest controversy came a bit later. In 2001, Mesco airlines permit was withdrawn by DGCA- Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The complete Mesco group was under investigation at that time. The charges were financial irregularities, falsifying documents and cheating insurance company etc. Mesco airlines permit was withdrawn but it has been allowed to operate once again.

The demand for private helicopter and charter services is slowly increasing in India. There are many factors for the rising demand. The numbers of companies in India are increasing and high level board members prefer to fly on private charter than to fly on commercial airline. This allows them privacy too. Since charter services are unscheduled, it is preferred as many a time's business meetings are scheduled at the last minute. Moreover many charter flights go to places where normal commercial airline does not travel to. Such locations are not economically viable for big airlines but they are practical for charter service providers.
