British Airways or BA is a UK based airline with its primary flights operating from London. BA has a South African franchise run by Comair - which also operates the Kulula brand. British Airways is one the world's largest international airlines, carrying around 36 million passengers worldwide. Also, one of the world's longest established airlines, it has always been regarded as an industry-leader.
British Airways' branch in South Africa started off as an airline founded by World War II South African Air Force colleagues, incorporated on 17 December 1943 as Commercial Air Services. It initially focused on charter operations, commencing on 15 June 1946. Scheduled services between Rand Airport, Johannesburg and Durban began on 1 July 1948. As the airline grew over the decades, they had to expand to include services on major domestic routes using Boeing 737-200 aircraft. Their services also included a few international flights in Southern Africa. In 1996 a franchise agreement was signed with British Airways and in early 2000, BA acquired a minority holding. In 2007, Comair extended its franchise agreement with British Airways for a further eleven years.
Like SAA, British Airways' flights are fully serviced with on-flight meals, television/cinema for entertainment and an in-flight magazine, High Life. British Airways flights are rated four star with Skytrax. In South Africa, British Airways under Comair has a reputation of quality and passion for service, ensuring that this airline maintains its major role in South Africa.

BA Frequent Flyer Miles
British Airways offers frequent flier miles to members of its executive club, similar to SAA's Voyager programme. Members earn miles for rewards, have separate check-in queues at some airports and receive other benefits. Miles are earned on qualifying flights and the amount of miles depends on the distance flown, the type of ticket purchased and the Executive Club Tier. Miles can also be collected through BA's worldwide network of hotel, car rental, financial and shopping partners. There are three tier levels in the club - Blue, Silver and Gold. The higher the member's level, the more benefits are rewarded.
