Throughout the year, devotees from different corners of the country take pilgrimage to Shri Veshno Devi Shrine to pay homage to the deity. This holy temple is located amidst Trikuta hills near Katra in Jammu & Kashmir, and is one of the most visited places of worship for Hindus.
Pilgrims come here with full devotion to pay their obeisance. Despite of a tiresome journey of 13km upward hill, thousands of devotees flock to get divine darshan of Maa Veshno Devi, available in form of three pindis. There is a holy cave inside the temple, which is believed to resemble a ladie's pelvis. It is the place that tantric Bharav Nath took 9 months to come out. For easy yatra and comfy darshan, well-improved facilities have been established by Jammu & Kashmir tourism.
Believed to be existed for thousands of years, this holy shrine has a significant place in the Hindu mythology. According to an ancient tale, Goddess Veshno Devi took birth as a girl Vashnavi in a small village in South India. Later on, she was guided by Lord Rama, during the period of his exile, to meditate in the cave at Trikuta Parwat. There are several other stories associated with the temple. It's said that Pandavas too visited this cave and established at temple there.
The most famous tale about the temple, however, involves Shridhar Brahmin who used to live in a village Hansali near modern day town katra. Sridhar was a firm devotee of Maa Shakti. He was a poor man, but due to inspiration from maa shakti, he announced to organize a Bhandara. People in his village and in the nearby ones knew about his financial status, and hence laughed at him on that foolish decision. Though Shridhar himself was worried about feeding and accommodating the guests that he had invited, a strong belief in Maa Veshno Devi was empowering him. When the day came, he started worshiping the goddess, and when he stood up after praying, he was surprised to see a wonderful arrangement made for Bhandara. People were enjoying the meals that they were wishing for, and there was enough space to accommodate that huge crowd.
The Bhandara was completed successfully, but a tantric bharav Nath created mess and inquired everything about that girl who came in Sridhar's dream. To accommodate his curiosity, Bharav Nath followed the girl towards Trikuta hills, and entered the cave following her. Considering his wrong intensity, Maa Veshno Devi beheaded him. After That, Sridhar searched for this cave and spent his entire life in the small temple there.
