Kulula Flights to Durban

Ok, so you've landed at Durban's King Shaka International airport. Digesting the free in-flight Kulula magazine over those tasty Woolworths snacks, the Kulula to Durban flight was over before you knew it. It's a gloriously sunny day and you can't wait to hit the waves; you've been dreaming of learning to surf all winter. Now what?
Well, you have two options. You could head down to Durban's famed North Beach for expert coaching at one of the best waves in the country, or you could catch a ride to the Gateway shopping complex. You didn't buy a Kulula to Durban ticket to go shopping, did you? Of course not.
The Gateway mall has a spectacular attraction for thrill seekers: The Flowrider. It's one of the finest artificial waves ever engineered, a chlorinated peak that peels left and right to simulate the ocean to perfection. Strictly speaking it isn't surfing exactly (because you ride a purpose built board quite different from a surfboard) but the action is relatively similar and the feeling, some say, even more exciting.
If you're a traditionalist and want the real taste of the salty sea in your mouth, there's no better beach than North Beach to learn the ropes. Rent a board from the lifesaving club and either take it gently in the shallows or enlist the help of a qualified surf instructor. If your time in Durban is limited, make the most of it by getting proper coaching. You'll get the knack twice as fast as you would on your own, and it's reassuring to know that someone's looking out for you if you find yourself in over your head.
Durban's not called Surf City for nothing. Fly Kulula to Durban this summer and see if the moniker stands up.
