Originally commissioned by a Saudi businessman, Pelorus was delivered in 2003 and used for just one long cruise before being sold in 2004. The top bidder at that time was Russian business tycoon and Chelsea FC owner, Roman Abramovich, and this became the first of his growing fleet of superyachts. The top deck of the vessel has a lido with two swimming pools, in addition to the boat’s two helipads, various other extravagant features anda large door in the hull opens to a deck with a wide choice of smaller vessels. She is powered by two3,900kW Wrtsil V12 engines – that’s enough power for a car ferry.
In 2009 the yacht became part of Irina Abramovich’s divorce settlement and she sold it to American business magnate David Geffen in 2011 for a reported $300 million.
