The West Mediterraneanis the place in Europe to charter a superyacht during the Summer months. There are many different destinations to head to from May through to September, each with their own unique appeal and where you can enjoy a life of luxury. Here are our favourite top five:
Cannes, France
This is the where the summer season kicks off in the world of super yachts, from the 15th to 26th May this year, the most luxurious yachts will be heading for this French port for the annual Cannes Film Festival. The lucky ones will have bagged themselves a quayside spot while the others will be anchored out in the bay.
Monte Carlo, Monaco
The attention immediately switches up the coast to the tiny principality of Monaco. This is where the world famous Grand Prix stops on its’ world tour from 23rd to 26th May. Attending this event is a must if you have chartered a super yacht, the atmosphere along with the noise is incredible (earplugs are advisable) and the glamour stakes are high.
Portofino, Italy
This tiny fishing village on the Italian Riviera is so picturesque that it is difficult to not want to stop off and go ashore. The port is tiny and the likelihood of securing a berth is minimal so in most cases, you will anchor off and go ashore in your yacht’s tender. Wander the little streets popping into the boutiques full of art before you drop back down to the port for a spot of lunch.
The Aeolian Islands, north of Sicily
Also known as the Lipari Islands this is a stunning archipelago with perfect weather especially during July. There are many beautiful beaches and bays to explore but you will also find active volcanoes, castles and thermal spas.
St Tropez, France
The jewel of the Cote d’Azur, this little port continues to attract the yacht jet set, especially through August and up until the end of September when the 15th annual Voiles de St Tropez will take place. Club 55 is still a favourite, anchor off Nikki beach and go ashore for lunch at this spot which isfavouredby celebrities and mortals alike.
