Despite spending most of my life swearing that cruising wasn’t for me, I’m a new cruise convert. We’ve taken two trans Atlantic cruises with Norwegian in the last five months and loved them both. So, for the benefit of cruise doubters, here are a selection of diverse but great reasons to take a cruise.
You should go on a cruise if:
You want a break from cooking, shopping, washing up and all domestic food provision duties. Everything is taken care of for you, all day, abundantly.
You’re a fitness fan. Some ships have amazing free gyms, superbly well equipped. You can find fitness classes, personal trainers and jogging tracks.
You want to totally relax. Grab a deck chair and a book and off you go.
You like to meet people. You will probably never meet so many people from so many backgrounds, in such a short time again. Cruises organise meet ups for similarly minded people. Singles, LGBT, knitters, car enthusiasts, all sorts of group meetings happen on cruises. You will also meet people naturally in the hot tubs, bars, restaurants, everywhere.
You like eating in restaurants. It’s not all about buffets and mass catering, cruise ships have restaurants too, in different styles, some you pay for, some you don’t.
You like to go to bed early. If you love to be up with the dawn there’s not much to beat seeing it at sea.
You want to learn something new. Want to try climbing? Look for a ship with a climbing wall. Cake decorating, arts and crafts, art seminars, hypnosis seminars, dance classes, you can try them all on cruise ships.
You’re a thrill seeker. Would you walk the plank from Norwegian Getaway’s top deck? Or dangle precariously from her rope swings?
You like to watch live shows. Most cruise ships have theatres and stage shows. Our first cruise on Getaway gave us a different show every night, most were excellent. Music and dance shows, stage hypnotists, magic and comedy, even the famous Blue Man Group, you can find great quality shows on cruise ships.
You’d like to get a taste of destinations without committing to a holiday there. Pick a conventional cruise that visits the islands of your dreams.
You like nightlife. Dancing is a big feature, all sorts of dancing.
You hate housework. Your cabin steward will clean your cabin, make up beds, put up and take down bunks and generally be an absolute superstar in the housework department. Heaven!
You love views like this.
You have plenty of time to get from a to b. A cruise can be transport. Slow, luxurious, comfortable transport. Look out for relocation or repositioning cruises or maiden voyages on new ships, all will take you from a to b and some are amazing value. Read more about finding a cheap cruise here. Our last one cost us just $30/person/night.
You have children. There is so much for children to do on a cruise ship. Kids club runs almost all day if that is your style, babysitting and fun for kids of all ages. Alternatively keep them with you all day, play, swim, slide, climb, have fun. Some kids even enjoy karaoke in the evening and have make wonderful new friends from all over the world. Buffet dining is perfect for families, everyone eats what they like best and there are plenty of healthy options.
You don’t have children. Look for over 18s only areas, pools, bars and lounge areas provided specifically for adults who like to avoid children.
You like comfort. A deliciously comfortable cabin is waiting for you.
Are you convinced yet? I’ve written plenty more posts about cruising if you need more time to consider. Maybe start with this one about our first ever cruise on Norwegian Getaway. More posts to come about our second on Norwegian Epic, stay with us, sign up to follow!
