The vibrant city of Manchester offers all the show-stopping theatre performances, shopping experiences, fascinating history and buzzing nightlife a visitor needs for a memorable weekend break, and the Macdonald Townhouse Hotel was the ideal spot for our recent family city break in which we also visited the Palace Theatre to see The Lion King.
Those seeking some serenity and luxury among the action will enjoy this boutique style hotel set right in the heart of the city, which was given a very stylish 3.5 million makeover. Stepping into this renovated cotton warehouse, you can feel the history of Manchesters fascinating industrial past all within modern surroundings. Theres a touch of old-fashioned quality to the service here too. The reception and housekeeping staff have that hard-to-find balance of discreet, yet always there approach to helping out.
The restaurant staff were certainly on-hand during our meal at the 101 Brasserie to advise on the delicious menu. Macdonald Hotels prides itself on quality British food. They told us that the chefs only work from whole raw ingredients and are given the freedom to create menus that are unique and use fresh, seasonal ingredients. And from a delicious 21 Day Matured Scottish Sirloin Steak to tasty wild fish of the day, we were spoiled for choice.
You can see why the Macdonald Townhouse hotel was selected to be one of The Macdonald Hotels Signature Collection. Its one of 11 hotels handpicked for their unique style, location and the fine attention to detail, service and facilities. We used the hotel’s free Wi-Fi to research what the city had to offer for families. If you want to explore Manchesters heritage further, theres history galore at the Peoples History Museum in the very stylish Spinningfields area. Children will love the Museum of Science and Industry with its underground Victorian sewer tours and mix of old engines and flying machines, and we visited the publicly-owned Manchester Art Gallery.
Any family tour of Manchester should not miss out the buzzing Palace Theatre, where we took in a fantastic show – The Lion King.
We finished the evening back at the hotel and, had we not been with children, might have been tempted by oen of the Manchester Townhouse 101 Bars original and delicious cocktail creations.
Instead, quality beds, spacious rooms and lovely little extras ensured some much needed-rest and offered some of the best accommodation the city has to offer. This really was the perfect combination of eclectic, modern Manchester, with a historic boutique stay.
