Back in the 1930s, Ermest Hemingway wrote “Nobody goes to bed in Madrid until they have killed the night”. This remains true to this day since, if there’s one thing the Spanish seem to do well, it’s know how to relax and enjoy themselves on a night out. With this in mind, here are three recommendations that you’ll want to try if drinking al fresco in the Spanish capital.
The Roof
Head for The Roof at the top of Melia’s ME Madrid Reina Victoria hotel. Not only will you be treated to some magnificent views of the city, but you’ll also find an inviting atmosphere in which you can sip cocktails or simply chill out. Gain access to the exclusive VIP bar and there’s a good chance you’ll be mingling with celebs.
Gau & Caf
Previously known as Gaudeamus Caf, Gau & Cafis a stylish venue in a traditional part of the city. Head for the terrace where you can enjoy a stunning view of the open air auditorium La Corrala and the rooftops of the buildings in Lavapis. If you’re feeling peckish, they serve some excellent food or you can opt for a takeaway courtesy of Gau & Go.
Delic
Pull up a chair at one ofDelic‘s outdoor tables and try one of Madrid’s best (and possibly strongest!) mojitos. The setting is very relaxed and on one of Madrid’s prettiest plazas. As the evening draws to a close, local licensing laws dictate that the outdoor tables close two hours before the bar itself, giving you an excuse to continue your evening in the Delic’s intimate interior.
