Top 5 things to do in St Tropez

St Tropez has changed dramatically from the Provencal fishing village it once was; back in the 1920s it attracted the likes of Coco Chanel and it continues to attract the jet set during the summer months. Whilst they may anchor off shore in their super yachts the attractions ashore are similar for the famous and mortals alike. The downside to visiting this area in the summer is the traffic, the best way is to travel early in the morning or late in the day. Alternatively hop on one of the water taxis to take you to where you want to go in style.

Lunch

Club 55 is the perfect lunch spot, located on the Pampelonne beach it is perfect for people watching. People arrive by tender from their yachts or in flash cars which overflow from the parking. Whilst you will have to battle for a sun lounger, the food is really fresh. Our current favourite is the tuna carpaccio washed down with a local ros wine.For those who want to keep looking good in their bikinis after lunch, the fresh vegetable platter is perfect.

The market

To get a bit of a feel for local life, visit the bi-weekly market in the Place des Lices on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Hidden away behind the main port area you will find traditional stalls set up selling everything from antiques to fruit and vegetables. Enjoy tasting the local olives and cheeses before you buy.

The old port

Wander back towards the old port and you will be in yacht heaven. Play at choosing your dream yacht, the majority of these boats dwarf the buildings around the marina. Take time to stop at one of the bars to enjoy a pastis or a kir in the sun, we love the Bar du Port for the contrast of modern funky interiors to the old traditional exterior of the quai side.

Nightlife

If you are looking for some nightlife then the Les Caves du Roy is worth a visit, located in the Byblos Hotel it is open from midnight through to 6am. Go with a group and reserve a table as it can get very busy and crowded.

Regatta

If you happen to be there in September then you will be able to enjoy the Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, this racing regatta which has been running here since 1981 attracts some seriously large yachts. You can enjoy watching from every aspect from Beau Vallon round to St Tropez, as the bay becomes flooded with colour from the large sails.
