Dining in London this Summer is all about one building – The Shard – the tallest building in Europe. With stunning views of the capital city from all directions, The Shard is also home to various restaurants and bars and for this reason will be one of the places to visit in the Summer of 2013. Here are 4 new restaurants to look out for, 3 of which are in The Shard.
Hutong at The Shard
On the 33rd floor of The Shard, Hutong will open in July and will showcase the food of Northern China, with a menu inspired by Peking, Shandong and Sichuan provinces. Hutong is named after the Aqua Restaurant Group’s restaurant of the same name in Hong Kong.
Hutong will be open for lunch and dinner as well as late night drinks with a three-storey high atrium bar connecting to aqua shard (read below), which will serve cocktails with an emphasis on gin and tea, two of the commodities that were key to London’s heritage.
aqua shard
Another restaurant from the Aqua Restaurant Group, aqua shard will be located on level 31 of The Shard where the menu will focus on modern British cuisine. aqua shard will be larger with 220 covers, and will be open all day, serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
Oblix
From the team behind celebrated Japanese restaurants Zuma and Roka, Oblix sits in the middle of Aqua’s two restaurants on the 32nd floor of The Shard. The restaurant is inspired by a classic New York grill with items from the josper grill being a highlight. The bar area offers nightly live music and a view that makes Tower Bridge feel like it’s in touching distance.
The Fish & Chip Shop
If you’re visiting London, there’s one thing that’s always a must – Fish and Chips! This summer try The Fish and Chip Shop in Islington, offering a ‘posh’ take on the classic British dish. This is the first restaurant from the ex CEO of Caprice Holdings, the group behind some of London’s best loved restaurants (The Ivy, Scott’s and 34).
