Head for the tiny Cinque Terre village of Monterosso this Spring for an annual festival dedicated to the locally grown lemon. During the Monterosso Lemon Festival, which takes place on the third Saturday in May, the village is covered in thousands upon thousands of lemons. Shop windows are decorated with them and a contest is held for the biggest lemon. You can also sample the local produce through stalls selling lemonade, limoncello, lemon ice cream and lemon pies, all topped off with a party in the central piazza in the evening.
